With recent success of Chandrayaan-1 lunar mission by India it is obvious that scientific community of India would become more curious about the whole project and efforts gone into that. I immediately searched for blogs/articles on the same and then came to know recently a book also got published on the same. I headed to flipkart and ordered one.
I started reading this book with lot of expectations; but after reading preface by author it became clear what to expect from this book. It is small book and you can finish it in your daily commute in 3-4 days. I haven't finished reading yet but spreading word about achievement of India's space program is needed. Its been long time when I read last about planets and astronomy in general. Author Pallava Bagla has mentioned most of the factual details about space program journey so far. Incidentally I knew about INSAT and IRS satellites in school days but now realized how important they are for massive country like India.
This book though fails in driving the "real point" home. Either it should have concentrated on technical achievements and its benefits for India in 21st century or only the chronology of the events in more detail which decided the direction of chaandrayaan mission . I would have loved more photographs and more anecdotes about the things happened over the years. I salute all the scientists who toiled all these years. I envy them for their passion about the work they do. Do read this book to get perspective of India's success in this very competitive as well as niche business.
